Creative Writing

Course Description:

Creative Writing is designed for students to create original forms of descriptive writing, poetry, drama and fiction. Vocabulary development, creative writing techniques, and skills are explored. Students submit their work to local and national magazines. Computers and word processing are used for composition. Writings are presented orally and in written form.

Importance of Course:

Creative writing is not only a means to help students unleash their creative side and feel more comfortable when writing in and about everyday life, but has also been proven to improve language learning and communication skills. Writing is a healthy way to relieve stress and express ourselves in a way that is most representative of our inner essence.

Course Objectives:

  •  Write routinely over extended time frames (time for research, reflection, and revision) and shorter time frames (a single sitting or a day or two) for a range of tasks, purposes, and audiences. CCSS.ELA-WRITING.11-12.10  
  • Write narratives to develop real or imagined experiences or events using effective technique, well-chosen details, and well-structured event sequences. CCSS.ELAWRITING.11-12.3 TEKS 14. a-c
  • Produce clear and coherent writing in which the development, organization, and style are appropriate to task, purpose, and audience. CCSS.ELA-WRITINGFORLITERACY.11- 12.4

Significant Assignments:

  • Students will maintain a journal through out the year in which they will enter daily entries.
  • Students will work in groups to write a short play
  • Students will create a website on Word Press to digitally display their writing and interests
